Learner's to provisional for motorcyclists

Checklist

If you have your learner's permit and no car licence, you must meet these criteria before you can get a provisional licence for riding a motorbike.

Hazard perception

Complete the Hazard Perception Test.

Minimum age requirement

You must be at least 19 years old to apply for a provisional licence to ride a motorbike if you don't have a car licence.

Period of learner's permit

Hold a learner's permit for a motorbike (R-Date class) for a continuous period of at least 12 months.

Riding course

Pass the Advanced Rider Safe course to get your certificate of competency.

Get your temporary licence

Once you have fulfilled all the items above, visit a Service SA centre to get your provisional licence.

Bring these documents with you:

  • your learner's permit
  • your certificate of competency (from the Advanced Rider Safe course).

Pay the provisional licence fee at the counter, and you'll receive a temporary licence.
