No driver's licence in last 5 years

Checklist

You must apply for a South Australian licence if you used to have a driver's licence, but not in the last 5 years. This means you've been unlicensed for 5 years or more.

Hazard perception

Complete the Hazard Perception Test.

For car licence only

Get your certificate of competency by passing one of these driving tests:

  • Vehicle on Road Test (VORT) practical driving test with a VORT authorised examiner
  • Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) course with a motor driving instructor.

These tests are not provided by Service SA. Contact a driving instructor or authorised examiner near you to book.

For motorbike licence only

Pass the Advanced Rider Safe course to get your certificate of competency.

Get your temporary licence

Once you have fulfilled the items above, visit a Service SA centre to get your provisional licence.

Bring these documents with you:

  • your learner's permit
  • your certificate of competency (from one of the tests or courses above).

Pay the licence fee at the counter, and you will receive a temporary licence.

Your photo licence will be posted to you.
