A U class licence is a new class of licence that you will need from 1 December 2024 to drive an Ultra High Powered Vehicle (UHPV). An UHPV is a vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass not greater than 4.5 tonnes (not including a bus, motor bike or motor trike) with a power to weight ratio equal to or greater than 276 kilowatts per tonne.

Checklist
If you're transferring your full or provisional overseas licence to a South Australian driver's licence, you must complete your driving test.

| Hazard perception | Complete the Hazard Perception Test. |
| Driving test | Get your certificate of competency by passing the practical driving test. You must pass the test before your temporary driving permit expires. These tests are not provided by Service SA. Contact a driving instructor or authorised examiner near you to book. |
Get your licence
Once you have fulfilled the items above, visit a Service SA centre to get your licence.
Bring these documents with you:
- your certificate of competency from your practical driving test
- overseas licence (and approved English translation, if applicable).
Service SA will check that your existing licence is valid. They may ask you to provide more information.
Pay the licence fee at the counter, and you will receive a temporary licence.
Your photo licence will be posted to you.
