Unit 3: Task 17 - Turning at corners

Learning Outcome

  1. The learner will be able to turn safely and competently to the left and to the right (with and without a stop) at simple intersections while complying with the 'System of Car Control' and the rules for turning and giving way; and
  2. The learner will demonstrate correct compliance with 'Stop' and 'Give Way' signs.

Assessment Standard

The learner will demonstrate compliance with road craft concepts at least 80% of the time (see pages 14-21) and compliance with the law during the assessment without assistance.

Requirements

Turning at intersections (with a stop)
  1. Demonstrate turning left and right at intersections incorporating a stop while complying with the laws for turning;
  2. Demonstrate the 'System of Car Control' when turning right and left at intersections;
  3. Demonstrate safe observation patterns (Rules of Observation) while maintaining full vehicle control; and
  4. Comply with signalling requirements, 'Stop' and 'Give Way' signs and lines, and the give way rules at all times.
Turning at intersections (without a stop)
  1. Demonstrate turning left and right at corners without a stop where practicable while complying with the laws for turning;
  2. Demonstrate the 'System of Car Control' when turning right and left at intersections;
  3. Demonstrate correct and timely observation patterns when turning left and right at intersections while maintaining full control of the vehicle; and
  4. Comply with signalling and 'Give Way' rules.
Negotiate 'Stop' and 'Give Way' signs/lines
  1. Comply with the 'System of Car Control' when negotiating 'Stop' and 'Give Way' signs and lines; and
  2. Comply with 'Stop' and 'Give Way' signs and lines.
